Moving Tips

Moving Tips
October 3, 2019 @ 3:15 pm by Kara Cotner

Moving into a house from an apartment for the first time is one of the most exciting, yet stressful experiences in someone’s life. Here are some tips to make it a more enjoyable and less stressful experience.

1)         Help!

Most people do not enjoy moving, when you ask friends and family to help they might scatter away like mice, so you may want to think about hiring movers. Get quotes from different moving companies, ask for references, and ask them questions. It is a good idea to hire movers who will place your furniture the way you want it, such as breaking down your bed and setting it back up for you in your new home.

2)         Water Valves Matter

There are several additional costs that can occur so it is a good idea to get to know the home. Locate the electrical and heating systems and know how to shut the water valve off so you can avoid these costly repairs.

3)         Won’t you be my neighbor?

Take some time to meet the neighbors. Exchange contact information. Besides being neighborly, you may be able to help one another if someone is out of town. You can also look out for unfamiliar cars in the driveways, an important part of helping to prevent burglaries.

4)         Key to Success

It is also a good idea to make copies of your keys. Carry one with you at all times or hide one outside of your home or give one to someone you trust.

5)         Just Drawer It

When moving your clothes out of your closet, keep them on the hangers and just put rubber bands around them, so when you’re ready to move you can just grab and go! When you are moving bedroom furniture, take the drawers out leaving your clothes in them and that way when you move into your new digs you can just slide them right back in!

Now all that’s left to do is put together that housewarming party guest list. Enjoy your new home!
