Halloween on a Budget

Halloween on a Budget
October 29, 2019 @ 3:40 pm by Kara Cotner

Did you know that Halloween is a billion dollar industry? According to Forbes, people will spend $2.6 billion dollars on purchasing costumes this year, $2.08 billion on candy, and $1.96 billion on décor. Yikes! Now that’s what I call a nightmare! Well, fear not, because I have some tips to help you have a Spooktacular Halloween on a budget that just might make Freddie Kruger smile.

1.          Make the cauldron boil at home

Create your own halloween decorations.  This is a fun and inexpensive way to decorate for Halloween, and the kids will have fun with this as well. Pinterest has awesome ideas, or you can also go to the good old dollar store too!

2.          Use the spirit of a seamstress

If you are a seamstress or know someone who is, then pull out the old needle and thread and make your costume! Again, Pinterest has great costume ideas if you need inspiration.

3.          Candy is dandy

Save money by making your own at home! For instance, popcorn balls are always a good choice, or pretzel rods dipped in chocolate…with sprinkles…yum! Great, now I’m hungry! Whatever you do, don’t be one of those people that passes out dental floss or toothbrushes for Halloween!! You might end up getting some unwanted Halloween decorations on your front lawn!

4.          Trick or sleep

Don't be afraid to go old-school this year and use a pillowcase for candy. Not only are pillowcases free (if you have extras lying around) but they are awesome for more storage. The buckets you buy at the local store will run anywhere from $5-$30 and the space is limited.

5.          Eerie events

Take advantage of kid-friendly community activities: Look for free community events in your local area. Some schools, churches, and other organization will host free activities for kids. Check out Facebook Events for even more frightening fun.

Well, I hope you have enjoyed these tips for Halloween on a budget! I wish I could stick around but I think I am going to go hide in the bushes and jump out and scare little kids and make them give me their candy! Just kidding….or am I?? (Insert evil laugh here) HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!!
