Getting Hired in Blono as easy as 1,2,3
The tips for getting hired in BLONO are the same as anywhere in America. And they are simple.
Have a properly constructed resume.
- Resumes still matter, even in this digital world. In a future post, I will go into the science behind this antiquated phenomenon and what should be in and left out but for now just know that you need a resume.
Use and build your network.
- Some statistics show that nearly 80% of the people looking for a job find their next one via someone they already know. Who is in your network? Everyone you know is in your network. Everyone you are connected to on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter is in your network. The cashier who checks you out each week at Jewel, the folks you play sand volleyball with are in your network. Yes, some links are stronger than others but even the weak links can prove valuable. You can have them all working for you if you have a strategy. There will be a future post that dives deeper into networking.
- I am sure the first interview in humankind was conducted beside a fire, in a cave, and using grunts and jesters. Like the resume, the interview is still around in spite of the emergence of artificial intelligence. So, if you get the interview be prepared. Know the company you are interviewing with. Its’s not that hard in this digital online world to thoroughly know a lot about a potential future employer.
- Dress for the interview. It is nearly impossible to overdress for an interview. Even if you are doing a phone interview, I encourage you to at least go business casual. For goodness sake, don’t do it in your pajamas. You can hear pajamas over the phone. I don’t know how but I know it is true. Ask questions in the interview. Remember you are qualifying the company you might work for as much as they are trying to qualify you. It is not just trying to get a job offer. You owe it to yourself to make the right decision. And when you ask questions, they know you are really engaged and interested in the position they are trying to fill.
